During the growing years I always wondered and had a desire about Australia, the land “Down Under” and the great “outback”. In the 70’s and 80’s I loved and still remember all the music released by Australian Artists, that made it to the Canadian Charts, I now see many visitors to B.P from the Land Down Under, so as to honour your great country. I want to dedicate this post of my three favourite Australian artists, in honour of all the great musicians and their music that Australia grew, produced and released, throughout my growing years. Terry K
is an Australian soft rock duo, consisting of British-born singer-songwriter and guitarist Graham Russell and lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock. They had a succession of hits worldwide, including eight Top Ten hits in the United States, in the early 1980s. They formed in Australia in 1975 and have included various accompanying musicians and singers. The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) inducted Air Supply into their Hall of Fame on 1 December, 2013 at the annual ARIA Awards.
Little River Band
Also there was “The Little River Band” who was also a favourite, producing hits such as “Lady” a smash hit and “Help is On It’s Way “, “Man on Your Mind“, “The Other Guy“, “The Night Owls“, “Take it easy On Me” Little River Band (LRB) are a soft rock band originally formed in Melbourne, Australia, in March 1975. The band achieved commercial success, not only in Australia but also in the United States. They have sold more than 30 million records; six studio albums reached the top 10 on the Australian Kent Music Report albums chart including Diamantina Cocktail (April 1977) and First Under the Wire (July 1979), which both peaked at No. 2. Nine singles appeared in the top 20 on the related singles chart, with “Help Is on Its Way” (1977) as their only number-one hit. Ten singles reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Reminiscing” their highest peaking at No. 3. Only First Under the Wire appeared in the top 10 on the Billboard 200.
Men at Work
The group that stands out most is none other than “Men at Work” from their 1981 Album “Business as Usual” producing two number one hits in Canada with “Everything I need“, “Who Can It Be Now“ and “Down Under“, “It’s a Mistake” “OverKill“, “Be Good Johnny“. The single topped the charts in several countries, including the U.S., the UK, Australia and Canada, among others. Men at Work achieved international success in the 1980’s. They are the only Australian artist to have a simultaneous No. 1 album and No. 1 single in the United States (Business as Usual and “Down Under” respectively). They achieved the same distinction of a simultaneous No. 1 album and No. 1 single in the United Kingdom.
