new pop2Johnny Orlando – “Last Summer” – Official Performance.
2017 was the start of some big moves for Johnny Orlando. After a few years of regional buzz, the Canadian 15-year-old made a true breakthrough, with “Missing You,”“The Most” and “Everything” turning lots of heads. The singer, who got his start at the age of eight by posting covers on YouTube and has amassed an impressive social media following, exploded into a pro with almost 3.5 Million YouTube subscribers. 2018 has marked another leap. The Ontario native is trying his hand at acting in the witchy Web series ‘Total Eclipse,’ which also features his pal Mackenzie Ziegler and sister Lauren Orlando. He’s put his spin on songs by everyone from Austin Mahone to Matisyahu, but we had him into Vevo to do a pair of tunes of his own, “Last Summer” and “What If.” The dude who fell in love with music as a child when his parents played Counting Crows nonstop sounds great in both of his performances. Be sure to share ’em with other Orlando zealots.

The Canadian teen started with covers of everyone from to Austin Mahone to Matisyahu, and now fans are loving his own music. Share our exclusive live performances of “What If” and “Last Summer” with other Johnny fans! check’em Johnny Orlando – Official Performances

Big things to come for the 15 year old

Born in Mississauga, Ontario in 2003, Johnny Orlando created his YouTube channel at the age of eight with the help of his sister where he began posting covers of pop songs. Fast Welcome Johnnyforward seven years and his channel now boasts over 3 million subscribers. His Twitter is edging in on the million mark and his Instagram is followed by over 5 million loyal fans.

While anything Johnny does is pretty much swoon-worthy in the eyes of his fans, it’s his covers that are guaranteed to convert you into one of those fans. The proof is in the numbers – some videos have seen nearly 40 million views. He’s covered many artists, such as Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Drake, Justin Bieber and more.

His latest cover of Shawn Mendes’ new song “In My Blood” is SO good. Check it out:

In 2017, Johnny co-headlined a sold-out tour with none other than Dance Moms alum, and one of his best friends, Mackenzie Ziegler, and the pair have since rosesannounced European dates for this summer. But it’s not all about covers, following the announcement of his signing to Umusic, Johnny released his new single “What If” with Mackenzie.

We’re going ahead and saying this just may be your song of the summer. It’s not only super catchy, but totally relatable. It’s about what it’s like to be crushing on a close friend and wondering what it would be like if the friendship became something more. We’ve all been there, haven’t we?

🇨🇦 The Simple Plan Foundation

“Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.” ― Alphonse de Lamartine

Simple-Plan-17

La mission de la fondation -The mission of the foundation { English Follows }

It was in Montréal, in December 2005, during their first show at the Bell Center, that members of the Simple Plan group announced the creation of the Simple Plan Foundation. The Simple Plan Foundation aims to help young people in difficulty by intervening in the following three areas:

Support for various groups and organizations working with young people facing adolescent problems: dependence drugs, depression, suicide, intimidation, poverty, academic difficulties, etc.
Support to various medical and social organizations dedicated to the well-being of sick and disabled children and young people, or victims of the consequences of war
Promoting music education and music as a way to help young people find a passion and purpose in life, offering them a stimulating alternative to street gangs and crime, and school dropout Simple Plan members are all the more sensitive to the problems of young people because they are in constant contact with their fans : “We created the Simple Plan Foundation because we wanted to give something back to our community, something that makes a difference, which makes it possible to change things.

We read thousands of letters and emails from our fans coming from the most diverse countries; we also met them during our shows. So we know very well how difficult the transition to adult life can be for these young people. It breaks our hearts to see that so many of them must struggle for survival, when they feel depressed, lost or sick. We want our foundation to help them find their way, reminding them that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, that things can be arranged. We sincerely believe that all children around the world are entitled to a happy childhood, “the group said.

A More Structured Commitment

For members of Simple Plan, the launch of their own foundation is part of a desire for more structured social involvement. It is ultimately the result of a series of commitments over the years: they participated in the aid movement for the victims of the tsunami in Southeast Asia, as well as in the Live 8 event ; they joined forces with MADD (Mothers against Drinking and Driving) and RADD (The Entertainment Industry’s Voice for Road Safety) , and Éduc’alcool; they have often agreed to respond favorably to requests from various charities and have, for example, collaborated on a number of occasions with the Children’s Wish Foundation andMake-a-Wish. Together with Sennheiser, they have allowed hearing-impaired children across Canada and in some European countries to experience a concert: with a cochlear implant, they could hear the sound of a Simple Plan show for the first time.

Even after the creation of their foundation, and in parallel with their many international tours, they were able to remain open to ad hoc requests or fortuitous disasters that hit various regions of the world. As a result, they have continued to be involved in a variety of causes over the years, in a more or less informal way, by visiting children or youth in hospitals or in special schools, for example for the disabled, or by donating promotional objects at various foundations such as the Jean-Béliveau Foundation and the Kovalev Foundation and friends for children, as well as at golf tournaments such as Bruny Surin’s

In the wake of its commitment to LeucanSimple Plan gave a big outdoor concert at the foot of Ski Bromont, March 14, 2009, as part of the Ski Challenge Leucan 12, which was the 30 th anniversary. The band also participated in the friendly hockey game Pro-am Simon Gagné, organized by Leucan Québec. In July 2009, the members of Simple Plan took up the challenge to participate in the “Day Ambassadors” of the 14 th edition of the Tour CIBC to benefit the Cancer Center Charles-Bruneau.

More recently, the group has contributed to the collective efforts to help the victims of an earthquake in Haiti, in January 2010; he participated in the Ensemble for HaititelethonsQuebec and Canada for Haiti and made a donation to the Center for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI). Also in support of Haiti, Pierre took part in the recording of the song “Wavin ‘Flag” by the hip-hop artist K’naan, with stars like Drake, Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Nelly Furtado. Simple Plan was also involved in the campaigns of the “bracelet” and “purse” organized for the benefit of War Child Canada, in collaboration with Les Chaussures Spring, to help war-affected children, particularly in Africa .

Soon after the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan on March 11, 2011, the Simple Plan Foundation decided to make an exceptional donation of $ 10,000 to the Red Cross, while the band #HelpJapan t-shirt put on sale to help the victims.

In May 2012, Simple Plan gave a performance to more than 40,000 fans at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, as part of MTV EXIT’s live concert; the event aimed to educate young people about the exploitation and trafficking of human beings, a crime that affects 2.5 million people worldwide! It was the first time that the band was performing in Vietnam and the members of the group were particularly proud to participate in this vast national campaign to combat this form of slavery in modern times. The show, as well as a complementary documentary to which SP contributed, were also broadcast on MTV Vietnam and on the national channel.

More recently, and closer to home, the railway derailment that devastated the heart of the town of Lac Mégantic could not leave the group indifferent. They decided, through their foundation, to make a donation to the city to help the victims of this terrible accident.rester indifferent to this catastrophe

🇬🇧 Queen – News Of The World – 40th Anniversary

news of the world header2

It’s a beautiful day, the sun is shining, I feel good, and no one’s gonna stop me now.  –  Freddie Mercury

A special box set of Queen’s landmark 1977 album News of the World is here, marking the 40th anniversary of the original release. The new package includes the original album on CD, plus two further CDs of recently unearthed out-takes and rarities from the band’s archives, one of which is a newly created ‘alternative’ version of the whole album – Raw Sessions. 2b2a300be71d8f017e3374c0ae95f370 - CopyFor many Queen devotees, this Raw Sessions CD will be the most intriguing component of the new release. Mined deep from long-vaulted studio multi-track tapes, this extraordinary parallel album brings to light never-before-heard alternative versions of each of the album’s 11 tracks. Every lead vocal is different, as are most of the lead guitar parts and a great many other instrumental details. Here we experience We Are The Champions, anew with many unfamiliar vocal and instrumental elements, and for the first time at its full-recorded length rather than the edited 1977 album cut. Here also is the chance to discover peak era Freddie Mercury vocals on a track that nobody outside Queen’s inner circle has heard him sing before at all – Brian May’s All Dead, All Dead.

freddie smilie2The original album version features May himself on vocals. Roger Taylor’s Sheer Heart Attack can be heard with its original long-lost guitar intro and uncut ending. Taylor’s other song, Fight From The Inside, is more remarkable in that we hear his demo vocal worked on in his home studio in preparation for the next sessions. Another outstanding feature of this weighty 40th anniversary box is a pure analogue re-cut of the original vinyl LP, direct from the unmastered analogue master mix tapes. There is also a rich selection of NOTW related memorabilia including three posters and a 60-page book of images, mostly previously unseen. The package is completed with a brand new one-hour DVD documentary, Queen : The American Dream, created from backstage material filmed during Queen’s 1977 USA News of the World tour.

🇺🇸 Artist of The Month “Steve Grand”

header3
Steve Grand (born February 28, 1990) is an American singer, songwriter and model from Lemont, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. He became an overnight internet celebrity and o-STEVE-GRAND-ALBUM-COVER-570was acclaimed by some to be the first openly gay male country musician to attract mainstream attention in the United States. The music video of his first hit “All-American Boy” went viral on YouTube in less than a week in July 2013. This attention landed Grand on Good Morning America, CNN and other national media. On Good Morning America Steve shared how difficult it was for him to come out to his parents as a high school student—saying with obvious emotion “I felt like I was a shame to my parents and that there was no way I could ever make them proud.”. Buzzfeed ranked the video on its list of the “24 Most Brilliant Music Videos from 2013”, and Out magazine named Grand to its annual “Out100” list of the year’s most compelling LGBT people. In addition to being a musician, Grand has become an active figure in the LGBT equality movement.

Steve Grand release an acoustic version of “We Are The Night”, a track off his debut album All-American Boy, and thanked his followers for their support.

Speaks Steve on the track:

“So for every boy and every girl / No matter who you love / And for all my trans brothers and sisters / Of every race, in every place around this globe / It’s our time / We will rise”

Writes Steve on Facebook, and offered some life advice at the same time:

Thank you to everyone who has supported my work in any way these last (almost) 2 and a half years. It means more to me than I can express.

I am grateful for not only all the enriching experiences your support has brought me, but also for the challenges I have grown from. I am the person I am today because of those experiences and those challenges, and (though I have not always been able to say this honestly) I am at a point where I know I would not have it any other way. Because what choice do we have anyways?

He’s Back! Steve Grand Releases New Single “Walking”

Steve Grand is gearing up to release album number two and has dropped the first single from the said album

Steve Grand_Walking_Single Cover_option2_v1Steve Grand has brought out some new music that we definitely can’t get enough of. “Walking” will become the first single from his second studio album; written and recorded all by himself; he also co-produced the song along with Tim Palmer. A lyric video showing behind-the-scenes clips was also released alongside the single. He has also revealed that a music video will follow soon.

The album is planned to be out in a few months. This first single is a fun and lighter tone compared to other album tracks, which will dive deeper into emotions. The single is a charity single for the first seven days, with 100% of the proceeds going to Rainbow Railroad.

The song reminds us of the jovial tracks from his debut album such as “Whiskey Crime”, “Stay”, and “Soaking Wet”; the latter of which was never released as a single and therefore never got a music video, much to our dismay; however, we happily support new music from this singer-songwriter instead….continue reading »»»»»»

George Michael – Biography {Part 1}

header2

“It is infantile superstition of the human spirit that virginity would be thought a virtue and not the barrier that separates ignorance from Knowledge” ~ Voltaire

Global superstar George Michael continues his extraordinary career when he releases

george michael
Paris Opera House

Symphonica’, his sixth solo album, on March 17. ‘Symphonica’ was recorded during the tour of the same name of 2011 and ‘12 and was co-produced by George himself, alongside

the late, legendary Phil Ramone. ’Let Her Down Easy’, the lead single from ‘Symphonica’ is now at radio on and will be released on iTunes/digital platforms on March 17. ‘Let Her Down Easy’ was written and originally performed by Terence Trent D’Arby.

Since he entered our lives in 1982 with the ground-breaking slice of exuberance that was ‘Wham! Rap (Enjoy What You Do)’, George Michael has become an international artist of the highest smiley_emoticons_kingrestless05order. He has sold well over 100 million albums in a world where Germany’s population is 80 million and the United Kingdom’s is 63 million. He’s topped charts from Austria to Australia. He’s sold-out stadiums from Tokyo to Tampa. He re-defined popular music with his debut solo album, 1987’s ‘Faith’ and has subsequently crafted a substantial, enormously popular body of work.

Perhaps, though, the real starting point is Radlett, a commuter town of 60,000 souls, north-west of London, where some scenes of Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange were hugefilmed. It’s where young Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (born 25 June 1963) and his loving, tightly bound, part-Greek-Cypriot, part-English family moved from their original North London home. Like teenagers the world over, George and his best friend, fellow Bushey Meads Comprehensive student Andrew Ridgeley, would dream of pop stardom, of making it big: “I wanted to be loved,” admitted George. “It was an ego satisfaction thing”. Deep down, the pair of dreamers understood that it wasn’t going to happen. These things just didn’t happen.

Yet, these things do occasionally happen and as Wham!, the duo would encapsulate the early-’80s. From that first single to their last, 1986’s ‘The Edge Of Heaven/Where Did Your Heart Go’, they sold 25 million records and they departed in a blaze of glory before 72,000 people at Wembley Stadium on June 26 1986, their friendship as strong as it was in the beginning. Wham! never got old and never lost their exclamation mark, but along the way, smilie-chuckie-boy-choose4George won the first of his three Ivor Novello Songwriter Of The Year awards in 1985. They had two US Number 1 singles and a Number 1 album – titled ‘Make It Big’ to commemorate those Bushey Meads dreams – they became first western band to play China and George began his long but mercifully mostly undocumented commitment to charity work with a performance on Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ and by donating all Wham! royalties from their ‘Last Christmas/Everything She Wants’ single to Ethiopian famine relief.

Even when Wham! were in their pomp and George was contributing to his friend and sparring partner Elton John’sNikita’ and ‘Wrap Her Up’, it was plain that George’s destiny was solo and that his new, more mature songs were too worldly, too adult to fit into the format of a good-time duo. He’d already dipped a toe in solo waters in 1984 with a song he’d written as a 17-year-old (“a very precocious lyric!” he quipped) while riding the number 32 bus home as a teenager.  c7083371a65741383023fa36151b7ca8 ‘Careless Whisper’ (credited to Wham! Featuring George Michael in the US) not only introduced one of the great lines in popular music, “guilty feet have got no rhythm”, but showed that there was more to George than the instant joy of ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ and ‘Young Guns (Go For It)’. ‘Careless Whisper’ charged to Number 1 in America and topped the charts in Australia, Canada, France, Holland, Italy, Ireland, South Africa, Switzerland and the UK, amongst others.

Just to prove ‘Careless Whisper’ was no fluke, before Wham!’s final hurrah, George’s second solo single, ‘A Different Corner’  e675ce7a59019d38159539eb08934af7 topped the British charts and went Top 10 in the US, Australia, Austria, Germany, Holland, Ireland and Switzerland. As someone once almost said, you didn’t have to be a weatherman to see which way the wind was blowing.

His first post-Wham! offering wasn’t even a solo effort. Instead, hot on the heels of singing alongside Stevie Wonder on a glorious ‘Love’s In Need Of Love Today’ at the world’s george-2leading soul venue, Harlem’s Apollo Theater, George became the first white male vocalist to duet with Aretha Franklin, whom he described as “the best female soul singer in the world”. The magical, life-affirming, Grammy-winningI Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)’ swept its way to Number 1 on both sides of the Atlantic, Australia, Ireland and Holland.

Then, shortly after George contributed vocals to ex-Shalamar chanteuse Jody Watley’s self-titled album came the iconic, groundbreaking ‘Faith’, which would eventually top charts in the UK, US, Australia, Ireland and Holland before going 10X Platinum in the US and 5X Platinum in the UK. Released in October 1987 and recorded earlier that year at Puk, in Judland, somewhere in the Danish countryside (it was a tax year thing; but George just yearned for home) and Sarm West Studio 2 in West London, it surprised everyone who suspected that for all Wham!’s obvious style and swagger, they might have lacked real depth.

girls-choose

Faith’ is the one written (except for his childhood and current friend David Austin’s sterling contribution to ‘Look At Your Hands’), produced and arranged by George himself. It’s the one which stayed atop the American charts for 12 weeks and the one which spawned four of his six number one US singles: ‘Faith’ itself, ‘Father Figure’, ‘One More Try’ and ‘Monkey’.

moneyWidely acclaimed as the British ‘Thriller’, ‘Faith’ sold over 10 million copies in the US alone (it’s found its way into almost 25 million homes worldwide), it transformed George Michael from global teen idol to global adult superstar – in the process coining one of his least favourite phrases “doing a George Michael” – and it paved the way for the extraordinary delights to come.

faith_album_cover4

And ‘Faith’ was the album which made the Michael mantelpiece sag with awards: a Grammy for Album Of The Year; three American Music Awards (Favourite Album (Soul/R&B); Favourite Male Vocalist (Soul/R&B) and Favourite Male Vocalist (Pop/Rock)) plus an MTV Award for ‘Father Figure’ (Best Direction) and Ivor Novello Awards for Songwriter Of The Year and International Hit Of The Year.

🇨🇦 How Jann Arden Became One Of Canada’s Most Beloved Singers (INTERVIEW)

JANN“If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” — A. A. Milnerosejann_arden_2I spent most of the nineties strutting around in an indie snob haze, indiscriminately snubbing anything that might be considered lady-singer3even mildly popular or, God forbid, mainstream, but I have always had a soft spot for Jann Arden. No matter how massive “Insensitive,” her biggest hit, got in 1994 and 1995 (and it got huge, hitting number one in Canada and Australia, cracking the Adult Contemporary Top 10 in the U.S., and making an integral appearance in the romantic Christian Slater filmBed of Roses“) No matter how many times I heard “Good Mother,” good-mother on radio stations I’d otherwise refuse to listen to, no matter how many friends’ moms bought her albums, I refused to stop listening to her or even relegate her to a guilty pleasure.

Also was “I Would Die For You“on radio stations I’d otherwise refuse to listen to,  I even snuck an Arden song or two on the mixtapes that I made for my like-minded friends and  discovered that many of them adored the singer/songwriter with a penchant for heartbreak ballads as much as I did.

Something about the haunting edge to her saddest songs and about the plaintive and honest lyrics of hits like “Could I Be Your Girl” turned us into completely earnest Jann Arden fangirls.

Two decades later, that same something compelled me to temporarily abandon any sense of professionalism and tell her all of this in the middle of an interview about her brand new album, “Everything Almost.

EVERYTHING

everything-almost

“This new album by Jann Arden is right in line with her style, one that’s all her own, an amazing voice like no other and rightly so she is not like no other, simply unique in her own fashion. My favourite tune from this new album was and still is, the Awesome track “Counting Mercies” when I listen to a song and it gives me goose bumps and chills, I know I like it, it’s the combination of the lyrics but most of all the voice.”

One minute we were talking about how working with legendary rock producer and visionary Bob Rock pushed her out of her comfort zone and forced her to look at her music in a whole new light, the next I was gushing about the Arden-laced cross-country mixtape ring of my youth. On the phone hello-hello-telephone-phone-smiley-emoticon-000317-facebookfrom a hotel room in Toronto, in the middle of a whirlwind media tour in support of the new disc, Arden sounds flattered – and patient – but she doesn’t seem particularly surprised by my confession. I get that sense that she’s heard all of this from similarly-minded fans before. And that the affinity is mutual.

“I fell like I’ve always kind of had this appreciation of the indie community,” she says. “I think the only thing I really kind of hit with in a commercial mainstream way was ‘Insensitive.’ I mean, that was twenty years ago”

33344084-viendo-el-tiempo-tv-familiaMy records were far different. I think they appealed to a far different demographic. I’m very grateful that I had that opportunity because it opened doors for me that were unimaginable, and to still have that kind of support from people that can sometimes shy away from things that are massively appealing.chuckie-king

“But honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever appealed to the mainstream on that kind of scale. I think I’ve just been on the edge of that my whole career and I think there’s something really great about it because it’s given me longevity.”

Being different or not easily categorised bothered Arden in the early days of her career. “I never really got told that I was like anybody and I remember being really concerned about that,” she admits. “Like ‘Wow. I’m not like anybody. This could be really bad.’ But I have people say ‘You don’t sound like anyone’ and now I really appreciate that.

”The intimacy of her lyrics – one of her most powerful and popular attributes now – was also an kiss-gesture-smiley-emoticonissue for her in the early days. “I was told that my songs were too personal and that they would never work. I was turned down by everybody. I was turned down by my own label. I got the greatest rejection letters,” she recalls. “It was like, ‘I think you should be more generic and not so emotive when you’re singing.’ You wouldn’t believe the shit they told me.” continue reading & watch more videos »»»»»»

titanic

I FIGURED LIFE’S A GIFT, AND I DON’T INTEND ON WASTING IT ~ JACK DAWSON ~ TITANIC

268138titanic-movie2We remember Titanic like it was yesterday. Well, the movie at least… When Titanic came out back in 1997 it quickly became the best selling box office movie of all time, a title that it held onto until in 2010 when Avatar stole that award.

Everybody can remember at least a couple quotes from TitanicPaint me like one of your French girls!“, “I’ll never let go!“. But sail-boat-animated-1perhaps one of the most memorable things about the film was the soundtrack. It’s almost impossible to think of Titanic without your brain screeching out Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”.

Ever since Tomorrowland 2015 Steve has been playing the memorable chorus of “My Heart Will Go On” as an intro to his tracksmaulis_0050Titanic” from Neon Future Odyssey. The crowd response has been so great to Celine’s song that Steve met up with her recently in Las Vegas to show her how much his fans are still loving her track, and people are still singing along to the track years after it made us all tear up.

🇺🇸 Doug Locke Fights Against Bullying In “King” Video: Idolator Premiere

artist-month2

In 2012, the United Nations declared International Anti-Bullying Day, the official day as May 4 and is recognized by over 25 countries worldwide, such as the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

(May 4, 2015)

clipart-king-smiley-emoticon-512x512-7be5The release coincides with Anti-Bullying Day, and Locke wrote the tune as a call to those feeling bullied to recognize the king or queen within themselves. The accompanying video for “King” is centred around a boy (presumably portraying a young Locke) who struggles with bullies at school but soon finds his inner strength to stand up for himself. It is a touching visual that many people of various backgrounds can relate to. Among the midst of heavyweight pop stars, we occasionally stumble upon some pretty awesome musical gems from up-and-coming artists! The latest that we’ve discovered is singer Doug Locke, whose “King” video we are premièring today ~ May 5, 2015.

Locke shared his own thoughts about the visuals:

doug“We can all relate to feeling alienated at some point in our lives, and I believe that the challenges we face ultimately give us strength and character. This song is dear to me because while it is based on my story, it is a lot of people’s story. In essence, I wanted to create a music video that I could show to my younger self that would inspire him to continue to dream, even before he had vision to see beyond his immediate circumstances. Some of the things that caused me the most grief as a child have ultimately become my greatest gifts”.

doug2Locke, a member of the LGBT community and an avid spokesperson for LGBT rights, previously released his “This Could Be Us” video that hit No. 32 on the iTunes Hot 100 chart. With comparisons to Prince and Frank Ocean, Locke dropped his debut EP Blue Heart on April 7, with “Kingbeing the first single.

Up Close and Personal with “FIONA NOAKES”

hugeThe New B.P recently caught up with The Fiona Noakes Band and we were honored that Madame Fiona Noakes took a little time out of her busy schedule to give us a up close and personal look at her song “Misunderstood” and the band.

ABOUT FIONA NOAKES BAND Looking to be introduced to Ottawa’s indie alternative folk rock scene? Then meet your gal, Fiona Noakes, Canadian-born singer, songwriter, actress, and writer. Sounds like a mouthful? Still barely enough to describe this versatile soul of talent, we dare say. Inspired by music icons such as Tegan and Sara, Emily Haines, and Metric, her music and heartfelt lyrics have the power to touch, stir, heal, and transform. With human experiences in their most raw and authentic states exposed, such as heartbreak, loss, and nostalgia, one can’t help but succumb to being transported to the depths of the sea, and to experience sweet waves of emotion. Terry K: Can you tell us how your video and song “Misunderstood” came about, a little history behind the song and why you chose to write a song about mental illness?c7083371a65741383023fa36151b7ca8

Fiona Noakes: I wrote Misunderstood a couple years ago. At the time I was driven to write a song about a person who feels misunderstood in life – about how people perceive them and how they feel defective because they don’t live up to societal standards or norms. This song is also about someone who suffers from mental illness and their longing to have that partner in life (whether platonic or romantic) help them through their struggles.

Terry K: How has mental illness affected your life?

Fiona Noakes: For me this song definitely touches on personal aspects of my life. My whole life I’ve always felt different and struggled because I was always told how weird I was and due to this for a while I tried so hard to fit in or be “normal”. I realized though towards the end of high school that just wasn’t me and started to meet awesome friends who accepted me and loved me for who I was – not someone I was trying to be. I think to have this connection is so important. Being the authentic you is how you will thrive in life.

This song really evolved into an anthem song with the video – everyone in life at some point no matter who they are can relate. The message we want to send out with the song and video is all about self-love/self-acceptance,self-respect, compassion, and not being afraid to seek help. Be proud of who you are.

Terry K: What effect has mental illness had on your life?

guitar-smiley-emoticonFiona Noakes: I have suffered from mental illness and have also had many people close to me suffer from mental illness. I feel this is an incredibly relevant topic that needs to be addressed more. There is no shame or embarrassment in this and I can’t stress the importance of seeking help.

Terry K: Can you give a little history on how the “Fiona Noakes Band” came to be?

Fiona Noakes: As for the history of the band, my current guitarist, Cliff, I met a few years ago. He was my guitar teacher at the time and had expressed interest in joining the band when I mentioned my guitarist at the time, Tim, was moving out West.
I met Danae through Cliff who also expressed interest and Ben we auditioned through an online music ad. Seedus is our most recent addition and has been a good friend of the band for some time. We approached him over a year ago about joining the band, as we were looking to add another guitarist and he was interested.

downloadColeman Steele is singing about being friends and belonging! The lyrics are perfect for an identity safe preschool or Kinder classroom. Published on Sep 17, 2014 the Anti-bullying version of Sam Smith’s Stay with Me sung by” Coleman Steele and children Lyrics”

Lyrics:

Why you frowning at me, it won’t hurt to smile
I just asked to play your game a while
When you’re older I know you’ll understand
You can’t say you can’t play so take my hand

Oh won’t you play with me
images (5)Come follow my lead
Feeling left out’s not what we need
So come on, play with me

Why am I so emotional?
Being left out of games hurts my soul
Get so knocked down, wipe off the dirt
You can play with me so it doesn’t hurt
