What is International Women’s Day?

chuckie-holing-sign-5The idea for an International Women’s Day arose around the turn of the 20th century out of a long-standing movement for women to participate equally in society.

The first International Women’s Day was observed on March 19, 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. That day, more than one million women and men showed their support by participating in public events. Between 1913 and 1917, women elsewhere in Europe began to celebrate the day as well.

Over time, International Women’s Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration. The theme was expanded by the United Nations in 1975 with the International Women’s Year. By 1977, the United Nations had adopted a resolution designating March 8 as International Women’s Day. Today, International Women’s Day is a national holiday in many countries and celebrated in many more. Following the United Nations’ lead, Canada chose March 8 as International Women’s Day (IWD).

Each year, March 8th – and the week in which it falls – provides an opportunity to take stock of our progress towards gender equality and to honour the contributions women have made and are making — both in Canada and around the world.

But wait… gender equality already exists, doesn’t it?

Equality between women and men is enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Government of Canada is committed to upholding gender equality in all sectors of Canadian society. We have made great strides in many areas, such as education and workforce participation.

We’ll organize people across the country and around the world to make sure that girls and women are at the heart of our poverty-fighting strategy by promoting their access to education. When girls get an education, they are less likely to become child brides, contract HIV, and they have greater economic opportunities for the rest of their lives, which is good for everyone.

All children deserve a good education, but in the poorest countries girls are denied it more often than boys. Education is vital for moving out of poverty. Every additional year of school that a girl completes increases her future earnings, which is good for her family, her community and her country.

We cannot afford to squander the potential of 130 million girls to cure diseases or end wars, invent brilliant technology or revolutionize an industry…or simply to access opportunity.

We are coming together and uniting across our divides to get every girl into school and to make sure she gets a quality education once she’s there.

But we need you to do the same.

Your education helped you to get where you are today – and it is in your power to help millions of girls to get theirs. Please act now, with the right policies and the necessary funds.

Canada & Greeders ~ The Hidden Hatred

I have watched, listened and learnt so lets talk about Canada, where men account for three terry-2015out of every four suicides, with seven men dying by suicide every day. And the risk is even greater for gay and bisexual men. Where the middle class and above are cherished, honored and respected and all others degraded and sentenced to a life of struggles, desperation the result of most suffering from mental health issues, resulting in…suicide. The hidden hatred within it’s walls for the most vulnerable of it’s population,  LGBT peoples, Indigenous people’s, Muslin peoples and outsiders if you will etc, a place where still today Racism still runs ram-pit, not to mention a place that even women are beaten and badder beyond belief and murdered or cast out and Homelessness is raging out of control for forks sake , and I can go on.

Now at a ripe 56 years old and an OUT non-closeted member of the hidden LGBT community in Canada all my life I know only too well the difference between doing whats right because it’s legislation and doing whats right because it’s comes from the heart. Being called names, beaten up and even sexually assaulted, also where for the most part kids and adults alike are being diagnosed with depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder which is the norm.

slide_360376_4031618_compressedAnd due to this perception by society, which sickens me to the core, I am shocked when I realize the closeted LGBT people I have met over the years in Canada whom still hide and spend their whole life suffering in pain and anguish, hiding behind a woman in marriage or just a relationship terrified to be themselves.

In Canada, only one in five people with depression get appropriate treatment. And in Ontario, only one in three patients discharged from psychiatric hospitalization will get a follow-up within the month. Why is Canada doing so poorly in helping people with mental illness? {because it’s not from the heart but rather for Greed~Terry.K}

Dr. Paul Kurdyak and Sanjeev Sockalingam explain why treatment is so difficult to come by. Paul Kurdyak is an expert advisor with EvidenceNetwork.ca, a psychiatrist and clinician scientist at CAMH (the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). Sanjeev Sockalingam is a psychiatrist and Deputy Psychiatrist-in-Chief at the University Health Network and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto.

With all due respect I also have to say that more than 70 countries have Anti-Gay Laws (Death penalty) which include country’s like Russia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Iran to name a few.

I do have respect for the leaders of these counties in question (excluding the newly formed American Government, whom should know better) for being honest unlike, Canada whom have created fake legislation said to protect all citizens, that I have fought and suffered to obtain more than 30 years, which in reality, I believe it’s only to quit those protesting, because as sure as I sit here, they will stick a knife in your back the first chance they get whom I have no respect for at all.

As a survivor of a suicide attempt at 19 years of age I now long for my time to cease on this planet, which I truly believe to be hell.

There are only two types of people I despise, and that is Liar’s, perjurer, deceiver’s and thieves, call them what you like but Canada is over whelmed with this type of individual that I call Greeders whom will walk on or over anyone to satisfy their own needs & greed, the place that if you Rob a bank, your life is finished but that same bank can rob you without repercussions.

Millions of people continue to live in places that outlaw same sex relationships and prosecute people for being gay. In five countries and in parts of two others, homosexuality is still punishable with the death penalty, while a further 70 imprison citizens because of their sexual orientation. ~ United Nations Feb 10, 2014.

slide_360376_4031617_compressedBelow is what one man from Ireland had to say about living in Canada after immigrating here to Vancouver and being here just five years, this is an excerpt from his review Pros & Cons of living in Canada:

High taxes, not just on wages but on everything you purchase and sometimes yearly on certain things like the value assessed property tax, high commercial tax, high living tax, just high tax on everything like GST and HST.

The pay gap between struggling and comfortable is so far removed from reality that half the people in Vancouver can’t afford to leave Vancouver because it costs so much just to survive.

Services, all of them are expensive. I never once imagined an incoming call could be considered a charge.

I have once again filed a Claim in The Federal Court of Canada against the Royal Bank of Canada on January 21, 2017 and I don’t even know if it’s been accepted or declined to date!

These are a few of my thoughts on the evils and how my Country has failed me!

Who is easyhome?

Also below you will find the regulations and the process taken by the Ministry of labour for allegations of Reprisal under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)

Update:  Above is taken from a email received regarding the Ministry of labour Claim yesterday, in regards to my allegations of reprisal, harassment and workplace voilence which 4798are separte issues but the harassment discrimination and violence is another issue that I want closure on as well and I don’t mean money because that solves nothing, I want Justice this time around, I want to pursue these judge-smiley-emoticonmater’s because they did with out a doubt continually refused all my request for a transferr  while the harassment continued. Then when I filed the claim on Feb 1, 2016 at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario for arbitration, to ask that they decide if I should be granted a transferr or not, six weeks later on March 14, 2016, easyhome (goeasy limited) terminated my employment in reprisal. Reprisals 

PART VI
REPRISALS BY EMPLOYER PROHIBITED

Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) provides workers with rights and responsibilities. It prohibits employers from penalizing workers in reprisal for obeying the law or exercising their rights.

Under Section 50 of the OHSA, an employer cannot

  • dismiss (or threaten to dismiss) a worker
  • discipline or suspend a worker (or threaten to do so)
  • impose (or threaten to impose) any penalty upon a worker, or
  • intimidate or coerce a worker…

… because a worker has

  • followed the OHSA and regulations
  • exercised rights under the OHSA, including the right to refuse unsafe work
  • asked the employer to follow the OHSA and regulations.

A worker also cannot be penalized for

  • providing information to a Ministry of Labour inspector
  • following a Ministry of Labour inspector’s order, or
  • testifying at a hearing about OHSA enforcement
    • in court
    • before the Ontario Labour Relations Board
    • at a grievance arbitration, and
    • at a coroner’s inquest

Canada Day Challenge

Celebrate your future!

Youth are invited to draw a picture, take a photo, or write a short story, a poem or an essay. They can decide which category works best for them, or they can also submit entries in each of the three categories. Each entry must be submitted separately.

We are looking for entries that celebrate Canada’s culture and identity, illustrate young Canadians’ vision of the future, and reflects their exploration and participation in their community.

What will you contribute to the future? What part will you play to lead the world?

Eligibility details

chuckie-contest-canadaTo submit an entry, participants must be aged 8 to 18 years old. Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada or legally allowed residents in the country at the time of the Challenge are eligible.

The Challenge is not open to an employee or member of the immediate family of an employee or persons living under the same roof as an employee of Canadian Heritage. Entries must comply with these official rules.

Application deadline

The 2017 Canada Day Challenge will start accepting entries on January 3, 2017 and will close on March 31, 2017.

What you need before you start

There are the three categories: Write it! Snap it! and Draw it!

How to submit an entry

Entries in the Snap it! and Write it! categories may be submitted electronically using the smilie-buz3online entry form.
Entries in the Draw it! category have to be submitted in person or by mail to one of the Canadian Heritage Regional Offices across Canada by using the PDF entry form.
Entries in the Snap it! and Write it! categories may also be submitted in person or by mail.
Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form.

2016-17 Student Video Contest

Win cash prizes and provincial and national recognition!

Use your creativity to develop an original video that can be used in social media to illustrate the importance of working safely on the job. This year there is an optional theme: Start the Conversation!

Students can create a video showcasing:

  • How to communicate with peers – at school, at work, or any other setting – about the importance of working safely on the job,
  • A message to peers to raise awareness about workplace safety, or
  • Any other health and safety messages students wish to convey.

The top Ontario video will be entered in the national contest to compete against secondary school winners from across the country. This year, the first place national winning video will be announced and shown at the North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week Launch ceremony on May 7, 2017.

Contestants can submit videos until the contest closes on March 3, 2017, at 11:59 p.m., Eastern Daylight Saving Time.


Who can enter?

directorchairThe contest is open to current Ontario secondary school students only. Please note that employees of provincial or federal workers’ compensation boards, provincial and federal ministries and departments of labour, the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) and their immediate family members are not eligible.

Ontario Making College and University More Affordable

Premier Wynne Meets with First Cohort to Benefit from New OSAP

wynne3Premier Kathleen Wynne met with Grade 12 students at Central Technical School in Toronto today to talk about reforms to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). Students in Grade 12 will be among the first to benefit from Ontario’s single largest modernisation of student financial assistance when the Ontario Student Grant launches as part of the reformed OSAP in September 2017.

Today, more Ontario students are graduating from post-secondary programs than ever before. But some youth hesitate to aspire to a college or university education because they worry about the costs or graduating with debt from student loans. The Ontario Student Grant will help OSAP empower more students to seek an advanced smilie-boy-blue-shirt2education based on their abilities and potential, not their family’s income. The new OSAP will:

  • Allow eligible students whose parents earn less than $50,000 to graduate without having to pay back provincial student loans
  • Provide the Ontario Student Grant to make the average cost of college and university tuition free for thousands of low- and middle-income students
  • Ensure that no eligible student receives less aid than they are eligible for now under the 30% Off Ontario Tuition Grant, which the new OSAP will replace.

Ontario’s highly educated workforce is one of its greatest economic strengths67 per cent of adults in the province now have a degree or diploma, higher than any country in the OECD and up from 56 per cent in 2002. By addressing the affordability barrier that can deter students from low- and middle-income families, these OSAP reforms will help meet or exceed the target of 70 per cent post-secondary attainment.

Investing in access to post-secondary education is part of the government’s economic plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number-one priority to grow the economy and create jobs. graduateThe four-part plan includes helping more people get and create the jobs of the future by expanding access to high-quality college and university education. The plan is making the largest infrastructure investment in hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit in Ontario’s history and is investing in a low-carbon economy driven by innovative, high-growth, export-oriented businesses. The plan is also helping working Ontarians achieve a more secure retirement.

QUICK FACTS

  • About 150,000 students are expected to benefit from the reformed OSAP when implemented in 2017.
  • The Ontario government will work closely with colleges and universities to ensure that reading-a-bookfamilies see clearly up-front the difference between the sticker price for tuition and what the student would need to pay.
  • The new OSAP will allow mature students to qualify for more grants so they can go back to school to upgrade their skills.
  • Since 2002–03, Ontario has increased investment in publicly funded colleges and universities by $2.2 billion — an 82 per cent increase.
