What is Ethics?

Ethics seeks to resolve questions dealing with human moralityβ€”concepts such as good and evil, right and wrong, virtue and vice, Ethics, also known as moral philosophy, is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct.

The term comes from the Greek word ethos, which means “character”. Ethics is a complement to Aesthetics in the philosophy field of Axiology.
In philosophy, Ethics studies the moral behavior in humans, and how one should act. Ethics may be divided into four major areas of study: Meta-ethics, about the theoretical meaning and reference of moral propositions and how their truth values (if any) may be determined;

  • Normative ethics; about the practical means of determining a moral course of action
  • Applied ethics; about how moral outcomes can be achieved in specific situations.
  • Descriptive ethics; also known as comparative ethics; is the study of people’s beliefs about morality.

  2. Thank you for following my blog, Family, Friends And Everything In Between! Kudos for doing a whole blog about bullying. I find that due to new technology and social media people are getting bullied more often. More awareness needs to happen so that hopefully more lives are saved. I strongly believe being bullied has played a part in teen suicides and it needs to stop. I was bullied for about 5 years as a child, I am now almost 40 and I still have some trauma from it. Those events will always be burned into my mind and I am quite certain it has affected me as an adult.

    • You are very welcome, I sincerely enjoyed a few of your posts, it’s very regrettably it’s impossible to read the 100’s I receive every week, as I really enjoy reading. The awareness some may think it’s a waste of time, showing society the damage and hurt it inflicts on unsuspecting and for the most part, innocent victims. I can also relate to the trauma, the result, I now spend 95% of my time at home as at some point when I do exit the door, I am over whelmed with anxiety, it’s as if I am about to embark on an adventure of skydiving, knowing that it’s a false fear makes it easier to deal with, but still takes extreme amount of strength to concur. Well I aim babbling on, so again thanx for the great blog, and one last thing I would be really interested if you could tell your story in a blog post on Bullying Prevention, no pressure but if you are interested, I’m just down the street…:-) cheers

  3. Just stopping by to thank you for your recent follow on Shift Key. And, to let you know about http://www.mendingthesoul.org/. It is a vital program for coming alongside and help those in healing from abuse. I went through the course and facilitate it as well. You may want to get in touch with the Tracy’s to get this excellent program started near you. As you well know, no one deserves abuse in any way, shape, or form. Or I’m available to you – to discuss this program with you by email/phone, etc. They have a program for adults and a separate one for teens.

  4. Thank you for reading and following my blog I have written at least three other poems on the subject. I was bullied at school and after. I have found that even all these years later that bullying I received at school still haunts me. I have written many poems on bullying in marriage too. I feel it is important to let ours they are not alone. We need to make children realise that harm they do when they bully. Thank you for reading.

  6. Thank you for stopping by my blog. I think the only way to eliminate bullying is to create a society that feels good about itself. When we all feel lovable, deserving, adequate and empowered, we will treat each other with kindness and bullying will stop.

    Keep up the good work πŸ™‚

  7. You are right, Bullying will never go away, it has always been a part of human existence and yes always will, but as in everything, there comes a time when enough is enough, In the process of awareness, we can decrease the number of incidents and the death to our young. Growing up in the 1970’s, I remember as a teen in a small town how many times I witnessed Bullying, unaware of it at the time but also a victim myself. As a by-stander who saw other teens who were suspect of being gay, being lashed out at verbally, pushed around and at times beaten badly which made me very angry then, it was a major problem then as now and just as visible, it’s just nowadays, people are finally realizing it has to change, KIDS are killing themselves and that is not acceptable in our society and I for one can’t just sit by and do nothing especially after being a victim of Bullying myself for most of my life.
    Take for example the two boys who stood up for another teen who was being Bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school, they purchased enough pink shirts for all the boys in the school in protest, the result, the Bully’s disappeared and it also sparked the creation of what is now known as “Pink Shirt Day in Canada” also I have at times confronted my Bully’s and asked them why they were Bullying me? they did stop Bullying me, unfortunately being workplace Bullying, I was eventually laid off or in most cases fired, Thanx for your comment and for following and supporting our efforts….cheers

  8. I don’t think bullying will ever go away. In all honestly, I think most of us have been on both ends of bullying at one point or another. People are imperfect and expecting perfection is a disservice to all. Since it is a double-edged sword I think it is equally important to teach children how to deal with being bullyied…give them the tools to use and the emotional fortitude so they can stay strong and take care of themselves. This is an issue very near and dear to my heart. Appealing to the bully rarely works…appealing to the child who is bullyied saves them from so much heartache. I applaud your efforts! πŸ˜€
